Edaphosaurus was a sail-finned plant-eater. It was an ancestor of both dinosaursand mammals. The purpose of its sail is not known. Perhaps it helped to cool theanimal in the desert heat where it lived. Edaphosaurus’s enemy was Dimetrodon,a 15 foot-long meat-eater with a sail fin.
